This report aims at assessing the state of past, present, and future research and innovation relationships between Poland and the United Kingdom. The statistical data, its analysis, and the institutional opinion summaries were achieved through desk-based research, survey participation, and interviewing key Polish and British stakeholders. Here we also discuss the key drivers of collaborations, the existing and potential challenges, and the prospects of future potential. Finally, we provide recommendations on how to boost and support UK-Polish research & innovation (R&I) collaboration on several levels: government, institutional, and individual.

We present the results from a survey on Portuguese, Spanish, Polish and Dutch researchers residing in the UK on issues related to Brexit. The key finding was that most respondents from all of the European diasporas find the UK less attractive after the referendum, with major obstacles identified being the new immigration policies for EU nationals, the political and economic situation in the UK, and limited access to research funds and to public services in the UK (NHS, education, pensions, etc.).

Academic Career Choices in UK Higher Education: The Impacts of Pre-career Mobility . (October 2022)

This research has three main objectives:
1. To assess potential links between key individuals’ past experiences of undergraduate or postgraduate mobility to a UK HE institution and subsequent academic career choices. Study subjects are selected from each of the following three EU countries: France, Poland, and Portugal.
2. To assess the factors that attracted these academic talents from their respective EU countries to choose a UK-based academic career path, including but not limited to the effect of any previous study in the UK, and to consider the sustainability of those factors.
3. To suggest lines of future study regarding the long-term benefits to the UK economy and/or to specific institutions, of undergraduate and/or post-graduate mobility, including the impact on academic career choices as well as other value-added by EU alumni.
