We invite all EU researchers based in the UK, in all career stages, to participate in an exciting outreach initiative. This is your chance to share your research with a broad audience and engage the public in science!
What We Need:
- A video of you explaining your research in a way that is accessible and engaging for the lay audience.
- Videos in languages other than English are welcome, provided they include English subtitles.
How to Participate:
- Watch our video with guidelines on how to record your video.
- Record a video of yourself explaining your research.
- Ensure the content is clear, engaging, and aimed at a general audience.
- Submit your video to info@connects-uk.org
Benefits:
- Gain visibility for your research among the general public.
- Contribute to the broader understanding of science and its impact.

Awards:
- Towards the end of the activity, we will award a prize of £100 GBP for the best outreach video.
- A jury of experts, appointed by CONNECTS-UK, will select the winner from a pre-selected set of videos.
- General public will be invited to vote on the final selection

Open Call for Blog Competition
We are excited to announce a blog competition for EU researchers based in the UK, in all career stages. This is a unique opportunity to showcase your research and engage the public through captivating and accessible writing.
What We Need:
- A blog post highlighting your research for outreach purposes.
- Posts should be written in English, with the option to include a translation in another EU language.
- Your submission will be featured on our website, and promoted on social media.
SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:
To ensure consistency across all entries while maintaining each author’s unique style, please follow these guidelines. The length of the entry should be between 500 and 1000 words in each language. Here’s a step-by-step guide for the publication process:
- First Draft Submission: Submit the first draft of your entry in English to info@connects-uk.org
- Review Process: We will review this draft and forward it to our blog editorial team for further review. This process typically takes one to two weeks.
- Feedback: We will return the text to you with comments for revision.
- Revisions: You will incorporate the suggested revisions into the text. Remember, the comments are suggestions, and the entry remains yours. If you disagree with any suggestions, you can choose not to accept them, but please provide justification. Aim to return the revised text within two to five days, though this can be discussed.
- Final Submission: Submit the final version of the text along with the translation in the second language (optional). We will perform a final check for typos and formatting errors but will not alter the content.
- Additional Information: Along with the final text, we will need:
- A close-up photo of you to accompany the blog entry.
- Your academic or professional affiliation.
- Your X/Twitter handle, if you wish to link it with your blog entry.
- Images to accompany the text (at least one figure is recommended).
- A featured image to attract public attention and promote your entry. This image will also appear on social media when your blog entry URL is shared.
- All images should be in jpg or png format with the highest possible resolution. Name the files as follows: Year_YourSurname_FigX (e.g., 2024_YourSurname_Fig1.jpg). Ensure you use images with reuse rights, such as Creative Commons licensed images. Include the URL source of the images in the figure captions.
- A close-up photo of you to accompany the blog entry.
