Release: Understanding EU Research Diaspora Organisations: Science Diplomacy, Strategic Priorities, and Member Perspectives

We are pleased to announce the publication of our new report, titled “Understanding EU Research Diaspora Organisations: Science Diplomacy, Strategic Priorities, and Member Perspectives”.

This report provides timely insight into how EU research diaspora organisations operate in the UK, what drives their members, and how they engage with science diplomacy and policy processes. Based on findings from a survey of 77 members and interviews with organisational leaders, the report highlights both the valuable role these organisations play in EU-UK scientific relations and the structural challenges they face, including volunteer dependency, limited institutional recognition, and reliance on personal rather than formal diplomatic relationships.

This publication contributes to CONNECTS-UK’s ongoing efforts to inform policy and institutional discussions on EU-UK scientific relations. By capturing both the strategic and grassroots perspectives within these organisations, the report aims to support evidence-based dialogue on strengthening their role as collective actors in the research landscape.
