We are pleased to announce the publication of our new report, titled “EU-UK Scientific Collaboration after Brexit: Research Funding, Mobility, and Shared Infrastructure”.
This report provides a comprehensive evidence base on how Brexit has reshaped the conditions of EU-UK scientific collaboration, and what the current data suggest about its trajectory of recovery and adjustment. Drawing on findings from Horizon Europe participation data, UK higher education statistics, and an analysis of major European research infrastructures, the report examines three interconnected dimensions of the relationship: research funding, researcher and student mobility, and shared research infrastructure. It documents both the progress made since the UK’s re-association to Horizon Europe in 2024 and the structural gaps that remain, including the erosion of collaborative networks, sharp declines in EU student enrolments, and the uneven impact of Brexit across different infrastructure governance models.
This publication contributes to CONNECTS-UK’s ongoing efforts to inform policy and institutional discussions on EU-UK scientific relations. By bringing together quantitative trends and structural analysis across multiple dimensions of the relationship, the report aims to support evidence-based dialogue on how to consolidate recent progress and address the longer-term adjustments still underway in the EU-UK research landscape.
